Our Belief About Science
At our school, we believe science plays an important role in helping children understand themselves, their environment and the wider universe. Scientific discovery has shaped the modern world and continues to influence the future in remarkable ways. We want children to approach science with curiosity, excitement and an eagerness to ask questions about the world around them.
Helping Children Thrive in Science
Children develop as scientists through practical experiences, investigation and opportunities to explore ideas in meaningful ways. Across the curriculum, pupils learn scientific knowledge alongside the skills needed to work scientifically, including observing, predicting, testing and evaluating. Lessons encourage children to think carefully, communicate their ideas clearly and make links between their learning and real-life experiences. Through enquiry-based learning, pupils develop confidence in exploring and explaining the world around them.
Belonging as a Scientist
We believe science should be accessible, engaging and relevant for every child. Our classrooms promote collaboration, discussion and shared discovery so pupils feel comfortable contributing their own ideas and perspectives. Learning reflects the diverse world children live in and helps them understand their place within local, national and global communities. By nurturing curiosity, resilience and creativity, we help children see themselves as active participants in scientific learning and discovery.
Achieving in Science
We are committed to ensuring all pupils achieve success in science and leave primary school with a strong foundation of scientific understanding. Teaching is carefully planned so knowledge and skills build progressively from Early Years to Year 6 and pupils are ready to tackle science in KS3 and beyond. Through investigations, discussion and wider curriculum opportunities, children deepen their understanding and learn to apply scientific thinking in a range of contexts. We aim for pupils to become knowledgeable, reflective and inquisitive learners who continue to engage with science beyond the classroom.
