Our Belief About Religious Education
At our school, Religious Education is a valued and inclusive subject that encourages pupils to explore beliefs, values and worldviews, and to reflect on how these influence individuals, communities and society. Through high-quality RE, children develop respect, curiosity and understanding of the diverse world around them.
Our curriculum follows the Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (2025–2030), which adopts a Religion and Worldviews approach. This enables pupils to engage with a range of religious and non-religious worldviews, helping them to understand how beliefs shape people’s lives, including their own.
Helping Children Thrive in RE
Our RE curriculum is designed to provide children with rich opportunities to explore, discuss and reflect upon a wide range of beliefs and practices. Learning is enquiry-based and encourages pupils to investigate significant questions through discussion, storytelling, visits, visitors, sacred texts, artefacts and engagement with lived experiences. Children are supported to ask thoughtful and challenging questions, express their ideas confidently and respectfully and to reflect on their own experiences, values and beliefs.
Promoting Belonging through RE
We recognise and celebrate the diversity of beliefs, cultures and traditions represented within our school, local community and wider world. Through RE, children learn about different religions and worldviews in ways that promote understanding, compassion and mutual respect. Pupils are encouraged to appreciate similarities and differences between people’s beliefs and experiences while recognising the importance of kindness, tolerance and community and also making direct links to Fundamental British Values.
Achieving in RE
Our curriculum provides opportunities for every pupil to develop knowledge, skills and understanding through engaging and meaningful learning experiences. Teachers provide opportunities for discussion, reflection and independent thinking so that pupils can demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways. By the end of their journey at Kingsway Primary School and in readiness for their secondary experiences, we aim for pupils to have developed the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage respectfully with the diverse world around them and to continue their learning with curiosity and confidence.
